'The Massar Children’s Project in Syria has been officially launched by Syria's First Lady HE Asma Al Assad, with a festival in Damascus. The seven day festival was held on the site of the new Discovery Centre and featured children creating artworks, participating in science experiments and discussing their ideas for the future with the Massar team.'
An interesting idea, Engaging kids within local communities in political and social issues through means such as art, science projects, sport etc. It is an idea which isn't widely seen, allowing kids to have a political well rounded opinion: I think children deserve this acknowledgement within the political world.
Schemes like this could work in London. I think the key is to build a bridge between children and political/social issues by using subjects and themes which engage them. I think promoting this in schools would be a great way to integrate this into our society. It could be something as little as a twice annual event like a 'sports day'.
What I like about this scheme is that it is not a 'politics class', I think this could alienate children from feeling they are part of what is being discussed; it is just planting a seed of thought.
Cultural Innovations is providing all advisory services for the development for Massar, a unique children and Youth project aiming to use the process of scientific exploration as the vehicle to engage and empower Syrian youth to participate in Syrian life as active citizens, increase their capabilities and realise their full potential.
